Moving away from the traditional recipe of fashion collaborations, including celebrities or a high fashion meets highstreet brand alliance, Opening Ceremony explores a new formula for its most current co-op.
Selecting fashion’s most favoured florist, OC have called upon Brussels-based Thierry Boutemy to implant his botanic inspirations into the summer collection. Initially noted for his work in Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, Boutemy now has a flamboyant portfolio of work with high fashion clients from Dior to Dries Van Notten, and OC uses his dreamlike visions for these fresh prints and textures.
Such a marriage of fashion and florals at this time of year always seems suiting, yet sometimes a little predictable. Thierry Boutemy, however, smashes the ladylike loveliness by replacing fragility with decadence, making the layers of cerulean roses and chrysanthemums more handsome and zany.
Sporty Opening Ceremony silhouettes of boxy tees, bombers and camis are still seen in this updated floral romance and the prints also feature on Manolo Blahnik heels and Vans, as well as New Era hats. It also just makes sense for this venture, overflowing with organic images, to be completed by a limited edition fragrance that bursts with floral and spicy tones.
OC creative director Humberto Leon comments on this creative partnership: ‘There’s no one who captures the essence and spirit of flowers as Thierry does, and we are excited to be partnering with him for his first fashion collection.’ Opening Ceremony brings an unconventional, yet organic pairing this June and perhaps this transition will spark many more beautiful arrangements with Boutemy and fashion in the future.
